Sperm cryopreservation, or fertility preservation, is really a straightforward procedure. The patient ejaculates by masturbation into a sterile specimen container, and then hands the container off to a laboratory technician who cryopreserves the sperm. While some patients may feel uneasy, or a little bit awkward about doing this procedure, the good news is, at most centers this is handled in a very professional, private way. And we find that most patients are indeed very comfortable once the whole thing has been completed and accomplished. And usually they’re very grateful that they’ve been given the opportunity to preserve their fertility.
