Laura, Survivor
At the time of my diagnosis, I didn’t know really how to react. You think that you’re ready for it, my mom died from breast cancer, so I kind of always knew in the back of my head that I would be diagnosed with it. But, when that diagnosis comes, you’re still, just…shocked. You’re taken aback and it doesn’t matter how prepared you are, when you hear those words, “You have cancer…”, any type of cancer I can imagine, that you’re just in disbelief and complete shock. You want to just kick right in and start with treatments, start contacting your doctors, and when you finally get in touch with your doctors and you start that active treatment, you get a sense of accomplishment and you get a sense of control back. Because when you get diagnosed initially, you lose all control….of everything.
