My doctor did not initiate a discussion about fertility preservation

My doctor is a wonderful doctor, but he did not tell me anything about fertility just off the bat. My mom is the one who asked him about the fertility options, and then he was willing to discuss it, obviously. But he was much more concerned with the aggressiveness of my cancer and making sure that we started the chemotherapy as soon as possible.

I do think, you know, certainly he’s not the only one generally…a lot of doctors don’t bring up the fertility issue just because it’s not on the top of their minds. They just want to make sure they’re curing you and they’re trying to do something that will save your life, which is important, obviously. So it was a question that my mom had to bring up or that if it was on my mind, I would have had to bring up. My doctor didn’t just bring it to my attention.
